World Sports Story of the Year:

By: In Partnership with Sportsnet

The Sportsnet Connected teams of Brad Fay and Martine Gaillard, along with Jim Lang and Evanka Osmak, sat down with UMM Magazine to discuss their picks for the biggest stories from a memorable year in sports.

1.  Usain Bolt (Fay, Gaillard, Osmak)
2.  Transfer fees paid by teams in the English Premier League (Lang)
3.  Y.E. Yang coming from behind to beat Tiger Woods at the PGA Championship
4.  The attack on Sri Lanka’s national cricket team
5.  Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez - steroids

Brad Fay:  Bolt again.

Martine Gaillard:  I have to go with the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt.  No other athlete has made as many sports headlines or captured the world's attention like Bolt.

Jim Lang: To me, the biggest world sports story this year was the outrageous transfer fees paid by soccer teams all across Europe. Smack dab in the middle of a world-wide recession, Real Madrid paid $150 million dollars CDN to acquire Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. The beautiful game is also a very profitable game for a select few.

Evanka Osmak: After a record setting Olympics in 2008, Usain Bolt continued to shatter times and impress the world in 2009. There is not one person on the planet who hasn't heard about this man. It will be a long time before someone is able to break Bolt's record numbers... unless that someone is Bolt.
